Improvement of an Air Purifier in a Closed Cabin for Vibration & Noise Reduction and Environmental Adaptability

  • Objectives The air purifier in a closed cabin has been improved by optimizing the flow-channel based on theoretical analysis and simulations in former study. This study conducts a trail production in a small batch and it aims to perform a further improvement for vibration & noise reduction and environmental adaptability maintaining the functional performances (i.e., airflow rate and purification quality) and retaining the constraints (i.e., dimensions and power). Methods At first, the prototype after channel optimization is produced in a small batch for tests. It had demonstrated that the VAL (vibration acceleration level) and the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) can be increase remarkably after airflow channel optimization, a modification of the impeller and an increase of the dynamic balance precision. Then the air purifier is further improved for vibration & noise reduction and environmental adaptability. The prototype is produced in a small batch and it has found that the qualified rate is increased remarkably after the motor is refined. The filter can then be modified to decrease the vibration acceleration level at fundamental frequency for stealth and enhance environmental adaptability. Results Six air purifiers are produced for tests. It has demonstrated that the VAL (10 Hz~10 kHz) is decreased to 104dB below and the SPL (20Hz~20kHz) is decreased to 60dB(A) below. The vibration acceleration level in the 1/3 octave band centered at the fundamental frequency is decreased to 90dB below. Moreover, the maintainability and safety of the prototype are enhanced notably. Conclusions The final improved prototype satisfies all the requirements of the latest technical specifications and this study can be a workbench for further improvement.
