Abstract:
Electromagnetic pulse is an instantaneous burst of electromagnetic energy, most commonly caused by a nuclear explosion, which can seriously affect and even destroy naval shipborne electronic information system, weapon and equipment and so on. In order to learn the relative information about the U. S. Navy on the research of full ship electromagnetic pulse effect, the parameters and site selection of the Electromagnetic Pulse Radiation Environment Stimulation for Ships I & II built by the U. S. Navy, several full ship EMP tests are investigated, the parameters and requirements of the planned new generation threat level electromagnetic pulse simulator, a Low Level Continuous Wave Stepped Frequency Illuminator is currently used as a substitute for electromagnetic pulse simulator for full ship tests are introduced. The importance and role of these facilities in current electromagnetic pulse test and evaluation of the U. S. Navy are analyzed, the main problems of building a new generation full ship electromagnetic pulse simulator for the U. S. Navy are discussed. The important work in the research of full ship protection are pointed out, such as building the full ship electromagnetic pulse test facilities, paying attention to the full ship electromagnetic pulse effect modeling and simulation, and develop relevant test and protection standards.
