Parameter optimization of ship's anti-roll gyro control system based on genetic algorithm

  • Objectives In order to improve the performance of the anti-roll gyro, a passive control parameter optimization method of the anti-roll gyro based on genetic algorithm is proposed.
    Methods Firstly, based on the theory of ship seakeeping and gyro dynamics, the passive control system of anti-roll gyro is precisely modeled, which contains the electromagnetic torque model of the precession motor. Secondly, to address the balance between the rocking reduction efficiency and system chatter, the parameter optimization method of onboard anti-roll gyro control system based on genetic algorithm is proposed. The performance of the system under the fourth level of typical sea condition is simulated and verified by Matlab/Simulink.
    Results The simulation results show that the optimized system has more remarkable performance, with the highest rocking reduction efficiency of 97.44%, and no obvious chatter in the precession system.
    Conclusions The research results can be used as a reference for the design and optimization of the onboard anti-roll gyro control system.
