Effects of the shared lines with different materials on the mooring response of the floating wind farm

  • Objectives To design a rational shared mooring system for floating wind farms, the impact of different materials of shared lines on the dynamic response of floating wind farms is investigated.
Methods First, the shared mooring and traditional (without shared cables) mooring systems were designed for floating wind farms. The dynamic response and economic cost of two mooring systems were compared to validate the feasibility of the shared mooring system design. Second, the influence of two types of shared mooring systems on the mooring response of floating wind farms is studied. Finally, the influence of load direction and line material on the tension of the shared lines is investigated.
Results The analysis indicates that floating wind farms using different materials of shared mooring systems have nearly the same blade tension. However, there are differences in the impact of the two types of shared mooring systems on wind turbine displacement and mean tension of mooring lines. In addition, the environmental load direction and the line material affect the wind turbine displacement and the tension of shared line.
Conclusions This study provides a reference for the selection of material of shared lines in mooring systems for floating wind farms.
